What is Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS)?

The Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS) is a certification standard for textile products made using certified responsible fibres. It provides a framework for responsible processing throughout the textile supply chain, helping organisations demonstrate their commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

Aim of GRTS

The aim of the GRTS is to define requirements for the responsible processing of textiles made with specified responsible fibres. The requirements cover the supply chain from the production of raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible processing and manufacturing, including applicable labelling requirements.

GRTS certification provides credible assurance to brands, businesses and end consumers that certified products and processes meet the applicable requirements of the standard.

Why Choose GRTS Certification?

GRTS certification can help organisations:

  • Demonstrate responsible processing of textiles made with specified responsible fibres
  • Strengthen transparency across the textile supply chain
  • Demonstrate compliance with applicable environmental and social requirements
  • Provide greater confidence to brands and consumers
  • Support responsible sourcing and production practices

The GOTS certification process:

1. Application and Contract
Complete and submit the GRTS Application Form to GCL. Based on the application, a quotation will be issued. Once accepted, the signed quotation and Scheme Rules must be returned.

2. Preparation for Initial Audit
The client will receive the applicable GRTS Standard, Standard and Implementation Manual, and Conditions of Use for the GRTS Sign. The client should ensure all required processes, records and documents are in place.

3. Initial Certification Audit
The audit includes an opening meeting, on-site assessment, review of relevant records and processes, and a closing meeting. An audit report will be issued, and any findings or non-conformities must be addressed. Upon satisfactory completion, a Scope Certificate will be issued.

4. Labelling Approval
GRTS artwork and the applicable Labelling Release Form must be submitted to GCL International for approval before use.

5. Transaction Certificate
Certified clients may apply for a Transaction Certificate by submitting the request form and required supporting documents. The TC will be issued upon satisfactory review.

6. Re-assessment / Annual Audit
GCL International will conduct periodic audits to verify continued compliance and review any changes to production units, subcontractors, suppliers or scope. Any findings or non-conformities must be addressed for continued certification.
